4 Signs of a Bad Interior Paint Job

A bad interior painting project is more than just an aesthetic issue. It also indicates that the team of painters you hired might have skipped important steps as a way to cut corners. Be on the lookout for any of the following signs of a job gone wrong:

1. No Surface Preparation

For beautiful and long-lasting results, any surface to be painted must be clean and largely free from damage. Before applying paint, the painter takes the time to do prep, such as repairing dents, cracks and other minor flaws as well as removing old paint and sanding. Once done, the painter should thoroughly clean and rinse the surface, before drying and applying the new coat of paint.

2. Lack of Preparation

The team of painters you hired should also come prepared with more than just buckets of paint and brush. An interior painting project will involve the use of a sturdy ladder, caulk, various brushes and rollers, edging tools and other important tools and equipment. Make sure they use painter’s tape instead of masking tape; otherwise, the job is unlikely to go well.

3. Painting Flaws

Unscrupulous painters cut corners to reduce their costs and increase their profits. The result is a poor paint job with too many visible imperfections, such as stained, faded or discolored walls. Others did only one coat of paint where they should have done so twice or more.

4. Wrong Use of Paint Color

Truly professional painters help their clients choose the best colors and finishes for the interior, offering valuable insight in a consultative fashion. They work with you closely to make the best possible decision. When the painter doesn’t provide the necessary guidance, the homeowner is left to make their best guess on the type of paint to use, often leading to disastrous results.
