A Checklist for Preparing Your Home for Spring

With spring just days away, it’s time to start getting your home ready for spring. You can start by:

Decluttering Your Home

It’d be a good idea to get a headstart on your spring cleaning. Start the season by sorting all of your things and decluttering your interior.

Cleaning Your Gutters

You should clean your gutters regularly, regardless of the season. Gutters protect your roof – your home’s first line of defence against the elements – from moisture damage by diverting rainwater away. That’s why your gutters should be kept free of debris or any foliage at all times.

You’ll also be keeping pests and vermin away by keeping your gutters clean. Remember that pests are attracted to decaying organic matter like rotting leaves in your gutters.

Sealing Holes

Don’t forget to inspect your exterior for holes and seal them if you find any. Vermin prefer to make their nests in small, dark places like holes in your siding.

Fixing Broken Windows

You won’t be able to make the most of natural ventilation in spring if your windows won’t open properly. It’d be a shame not to take advantage of the fresh, spring breeze.

Checking Your Sprinklers

You’ll be using your sprinklers more often as we get closer to spring and summer, which is why it’d be a good idea to make sure your sprinklers are correctly working. Here are a few inspection tips:

  1. Turn all of your sprinklers on, and walk around your property while taking note of any broken or malfunctioning sprinkler heads.
  2. Adjust one of the sprinkler heads if they’re spraying water on your facade or sidewalk.
  3. If you need help troubleshooting your sprinkler system, make sure to hire an experienced professional.
