5 Popular Kitchen Cabinet Door Styles

The style of your kitchen cabinets’ doors is one of the most important factors in the space’s overall design. Apart from them being one of the highly visible elements in your kitchen, these components are worth investing in, especially if you are looking to pursue kitchen remodeling.

Handyman Connection® of Grapevine, home of your local home improvement pros, discusses the five popular styles to consider when updating the doors of your kitchen cabinets.

1. Inset Door

This classic cabinet door style rests inside of the frame—an unconventional configuration in today’s standards. Today, typical cabinet doors rest on the outside of the frame. An inset door features exposed hinges, which are mounted right on the visible frame around the cabinet opening.

2. Shaker-Style Cabinet Door

Like the inset cabinet door, this style also exudes a classic, timeless look. A common configuration found in today’s kitchens, it consists of a single flat center panel with a four-piece mortise and tenon placed on top of it. The style lends itself to both traditional and contemporary decor, making it an all-around choice.

3. Louvered Cabinet Door

Horizontal wood slats are often found in interior doors, windows, and furniture pieces, but they can also be used as the primary feature of kitchen cabinet doors. Apart from adding a unique style to kitchen cabinetry, the slats also take advantage of ventilation.

4. Beadboard Cabinet Door

A beadboard cabinet door style fits well in cottage-style kitchens. The frame is grooved on the inside and surrounds the center beadboard panel. This construction allows the central panel to “float,” creating a distinct aesthetic.

5. Distressed Cabinet Door

A worn-out cabinet door brings out a kitchen’s antique look. Various distressing techniques can be applied on any door style, like having the corners rubbed off, to bring out an age-old feel of the whole space.
