The holidays are almost here! That may have you feeling more stressed than excited, and if that’s the case for you, we’re here to help. Our crew here at Handyman Connection of McKinney has put together a few pro tips when it comes to decorating your home this holiday season. Whether you’re utilizing last year’s decorations, or starting from square one, these suggestions are sure to help trigger your creativity while making the decoration process easy.
#1 – Get creative
As you begin thinking about the best way to tackle your home’s decorations this holiday season, don’t get overwhelmed, get creative. There are lots of resources online, from TV shows, and through recommendations from friends to help stir your creativity. This tip might be common sense, but is often forgotten which is why we’d like to make sure and reiterate it.
#2 – Incorporate natural greenery
Don’t hold back, and embrace natural, live greenery. While faux “green” trends are great, there’s nothing that beats the real thing. By purchasing or using natural evergreens, garlands, and seasonal flowers, you’ll be able to utilize the aromas and beauty that live plants and greenery bring to the home. Try incorporating poinsettias, or try incorporating a natural tree instead of the fake one. You’ll be surprised at what the natural plant life will bring to the atmosphere in your home.
#3 – Embrace the smells
One of the best ways to bring out the holiday nostalgia is to ramp up and bring out those holiday scents. As you start decorating around the house, don’t forget to incorporate your favorite holiday smells. You can do that by buying and dispersing holiday-scented candles, or by creating your own! DIY your favorite holiday scents by simmering orange peels, cloves, and cinnamon sticks in some warm water on your stove throughout the day. It’ll add a nice, homey, warm, holiday touch to your home.
#4 – Follow the trends
Trends become trends for a reason. Play on your favorite trend and make it your own. Incorporate your favorite trends from years past, or play on 2016’s trends. Either way you can’t go wrong. One of the trends that our crew here in McKinney notices is that keeping your holiday décor simple is key. Check out ideas on Pinterest or magazines, and let us know which ones are your favorites.
#5 – Safety
As you are beginning to putting up your decorations, don’t forget to take additional and extra safety precautions when doing so. If you’re installing decorations such as lights or featured areas outside make sure to use a sturdy ladder and that you have someone else there to help you and to spot your ladder. A lot of accidents are reported around this time of year due to putting up holiday decorations. We don’t want you to fall into that category. Exercise an extra level of precaution and safety measures when you’re installing your decorations, and be safe this holiday season.
Here at Handyman Connection of McKinney, our goal is to help you tackle any and all of your home maintenance projects. Don’t forget to give our expert crew a call for your next one! Happy holidays!
