If you’re planning a major bathroom remodeling project, then you need to understand plumbing. Understanding how your plumbing works is essential if you want your project to succeed and to stay in budget. Handyman Connection® of Eden Prairie explains everything you need to know.
Understanding Pipe Options
First, you’ll need to understand the different kinds of pipes. In the past, most bathroom pipes were made of either galvanized metal or cast iron. Unfortunately, these kinds of pipes don’t work with many modern water-saving setups. Fortunately, upgrading to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) pipes is simple and affordable. If you prefer to leave your plumbing exposed, then consider using copper pipes instead since they look appealing.
Plumbing and Layouts
The plumbing in your bathroom has a major effect on your new bathroom’s layout. You can move drains or pipes, but some types of relocations are not possible. Before you buy any bathroom fixture that connects to a pipe, talk to a professional, and ask them about what’s feasible for your bathroom’s existing plumbing.
Showerheads and Water Pressure
Most shower heads will fit an existing pipe because of the National Pipe Thread. This is the U.S. standard size for a fitting that connects rigid pipes. Unfortunately, your new shower head might not work with your home’s existing water pressure. Modern shower heads are required to restrict water flow. We strongly recommend having your home’s water pressure checked before you buy a new showerhead.
