4 To-Do List Things Before Moving In

Before you move into your new home here in Eden Prairie, you should create a to-do list of tasks to get done. Luckily for you, we’ve gone ahead and created a small list for you to help make the move-in process a little easier and make your home safer. Check out what our crew at Handyman Connection of Eden Prairie recommends below.

Change Exterior Locks

Like most homes you move into, there was probably someone living in there before you. One of the easiest things to misplace is a house key. So what most homeowners will do is make multiple copies of their house keys in case they lose one. Over time, those copies could change possession. People who aren’t supposed to have them could come in contact with them. There are many things that could happen with those spare keys. Because of this, we always suggest changing all the locks on the exterior of your home. This will help alleviate any potential safety issues as well as allow you to maintain peace of mind in your own home.

Inspect Everything

Before you move in, it’s important to do an extensive inspection of the entire home. Make sure you’re aware of any issues that need to be addressed and try to get them all resolved before moving in. Because the house is empty, it’s best to take care of any repairs or renovations before you start filling the space up.

Clean

Like we said before, the house is empty before you move in. Take advantage of it. It’ll be the only time ever that your new home is this empty and clean. Use that time to do some extensive cleaning to all areas of your home. You can even hire a professional cleaning service to help you with this.

Paint or Wallpaper

Similar to cleaning, use the ‘empty house’ opportunity to add a fresh coat of paint or some nice wallpaper to make your rooms like new. It’s always best to do either of these things prior to moving any furniture inside. This will make painting and installing wallpaper a lot easier and more convenient for you.
