Kitchen Shelving Trends to Consider in 2020

Looking for a more stylish way to up your kitchen’s storage space?

Handyman Connection of Colorado Springs can help install whatever prefabricated kitchen shelving your heart desires – heck, we can even design you a custom shelving unit! But if you need a little inspiration before you go shelf shopping, here are 5 kitchen shelving trends to get you started:

5 Kitchen Shelving Trends That Will Transform Your Kitchen in a Major Way

1. Wall-Mounted Ledges

Wall-mounted ledges, or floating shelves, are a great way to add a lot of style and storage area without taking up much space. Floating storage shelves look great next to kitchen windows, above kitchen sinks, or even above your range and oven, and can be used to store (or even show off) your most stylish kitchen supplies like copper pots and pans, china, champagne flutes, etc.

2. Turn Cabinets Into Open Shelves

If you’re sick of your old cabinets but don’t want to go through the trouble of ripping them down or refacing them, try converting them into open shelving by taking off the doors. This, combined with a fresh coat of paint, is an easy way to open up and add some depth to your cooking space, especially if it’s on the smaller side.

Important Note: While this may seem like an easy DIY project, removing cabinet doors properly can be tricky; if done incorrectly, it can result in permanently-damaged cabinets that you’ll have to replace. If you’re not sure how to do it properly, call the experts at Handyman Connection of Colorado Springs to help with your custom storage needs.

3. Shelving Around the Perimeter

Adding high-perimeter shelving is a great way to store those seasonal-yet-chic kitchen supplies that you might not use on a regular basis – like your red, vintage stand mixer. This kitchen shelving trend looks great in kitchens with high ceilings.

4. Sink Ledges

If you have the space for it, a ledge above the sink can be the perfect place to store dishwashing supplies like soap and sponges, as well as other helpful odds and ends like jewelry holders or a tiny cooking herb garden.

5. Hanging Racks

Racks and hooks are a unique way to store pots, pans, cooking utensils and more, and look great in rustic, country-style kitchens.
