When do you need to replace your door? Does an exterior door seem worn? Does an interior door need a facelift? Here are a few signs it’s time for door replacement.
If there are repeated temperature and humidity fluctuations in your house, this will cause doors to warp. The result of this is that it can cause the material to contract and create gaps between the door frame and the actual door. Is this happening in your home? If so, it’s time to replace your door.
If you notice a collection of moisture between the double-panes in the doors, this could indicate the water seal has been weakened and that rain and humidity are entering. Wood and rot could now become a serious reality. When this happens, consider replacing the door before damage spreads to the other wood elements around the door and your home.
Your doors are bound to be on the receiving end of dings, scratches, and dents. Does the damage go beyond the surface? Is it large enough to cause a bigger issue down the road? Damage that occurs from water and wood-eating insects can get to the core of your door and penetrate these holes, so it may be time for a new one if this is the case.
Believe it or not, your door may appear to be hollow — or lighter — over time, and that’s due to wood-eating insects or termites taking it over. Be warned — steel doors with wooden cores can also experience this type of problem.
