5 Outdoor Projects to Tackle This Summer

Who doesn’t love great weather? When the summer months roll into your state, it’s time to turn to outdoor projects. Do you love woodworking? Laying brick or painting? Gardening? Regardless of your passion, there’s an outdoor project for you. Here are some ideas to get you started!

Outdoor Projects and Ideas

1. Outdoor Arm Chairs

Outdoor arm chairs are the perfect way to gather friends and family for an evening in the backyard. If you love to host bonfires, adding a few of these to the yard for extra seating may be the summer project for you! Common woods to use for outdoor projects such as these is cedar or treated lumber. Add the giant throw cushions in and you are looking at deep seating fit for any gathering at your house.

2. Pallet Benches

The use of pallets for furniture and woodwork has climbed exponentially over the years, and using them for outdoor projects is no different. Pallet benches are an easier and more inexpensive option to add seating to any yard. Know that not all pallets are created equally. Make sure that the one you are working with has been heat-treated (HT) which makes it safe for use.

3. Beverage Cart

Keep the cold drinks within an arm’s reach all summer long. A beverage cart can hold anything you want from bottles of water to your favorite adult beverages. This outdoor project doesn’t need to be overly complex. Wheels with brake locks or a stopper will complete the project.

4. Outdoor Loungers

If you have a pool or just like to lounge around in your backyard, these oversized chairs may be a great option for you. The oversized outdoor loungers can be built with your sturdy wood of choice — and finished with a cushion. Paint a bright color for some added pop, or stick with a classic stain.

5. Painting Projects

If working with wood and building is not your thing, painting can be a great way to give your home a refreshed look. If a total repaint is not needed, check the trim. Or, porch or deck railings that might need to be touched up. Stick with a classic look, or mix it up and go bold with brighter colors.
