It can be tricky to clean the grout lines of your kitchen or bathroom given the material’s porous nature. No matter how many times you sweep the tile floor, you’ll notice black streaks on these lines, which are mostly dirt and debris. Also, you can’t wipe it clean since they are slightly embedded deeper than the surface.
Today’s post provides some expert tips on how you can clean grout lines in an effective manner.
First Things First
Before you begin the cleaning process, be sure to have a few things on hand. They can be found in your home; if not, they’re surely available at your local general or hardware store. These include baking soda, liquids (water and vinegar), a grout brush and grout sealer. You may use an old toothbrush instead of the grout brush. Of course, you need a wet cloth and a mixing bowl.
Pre-Cleaning
Begin by wiping the tile clean with a damp cloth to remove visible dirt, dust and grime on the surface. Pay attention to stains as well. Not all dirt may be removed on the grout, but don’t worry because you’ll be doing further cleaning soon after.
Mix and Apply
Create a cleaning solution to clean the grout lines. Be sure to take into account their state as this would require different mixtures. For instance, combine two parts baking soda with one part water. Replace water with vinegar in the solution for stained or discolored lines. Once done, you can begin applying the solution on the grout lines. Take note, however, to apply your vinegar-based solution with care so as to avoid accidental tile stains.
Scrub and Seal
After applying the solution, let it sit for around five to eight minutes. After which, you can use your grout brush or old toothbrush to scrub the grout lines. For better results, apply and scrub again until you see that they are completely clean. Let it dry for 24 hours before you apply the sealer.
