5 Easy Steps to Effectively Organize Your Closet

Keeping your closet as well-kept as possible is often easier said than done. Many people who are busy don’t always have the time to keep it in order, but you should maximize your free time to organize your closet.

Today’s post discusses how to effectively organize your closet in five easy steps.

1. Set a Staging Area

Before emptying the contents of your closet, be sure to find the best staging area where you can place all of the items. A clear, unobstructed portion of your room would be suitable. Otherwise, your bed, desk and chairs would suffice.

2. Organize Items Into Specific Categories

Certain items of the same category can be placed in cardboard boxes, plastic containers or piles that must be labeled accordingly to keep track of each group. As for the categories, you can break out items into what you intend to keep, donate or throw away.

3. Eliminate the Unnecessary Items

Most of the clutter in your home is a result of things kept in areas not meant for storage. Items that don’t belong in the particular closet that you are trying to organize must be stored in their rightful places.

4. Donate and Dispose

Only throw deformed items away in this phase. Other items that can still be used can be donated to charity. Those in good condition can be sold online. You can even start a garage sale or take unwanted items to your local consignment store.

5. Clean Your Closet

Make it a point to tidy the storage area up. Remove any dirt and dust. Sweep them away, or use your vacuum cleaner to complete the job.
