3 Signs You Might Need to Install a Water Softening System

If you spot stains on your faucets and clothes or feel a residue on your hands when you wash them, then your home might have hard water. Hard water refers to water with high levels of dissolved magnesium and calcium. Hard water is not a health concern, but it can be quite bothersome. Fortunately, water softeners can deal with this problem. Here are the signs that you might need a water softener.

1. Stains

Stains that are left behind from mineral residue are clear signs of a hard water problem. These stains form when hard water evaporates and leaves behind magnesium and calcium. You can remove the plaster-like deposits on your sink and bathtub using a potassium chloride water softener. If you want to know how much mineral excess is in your water supply, then you can pick up a water testing kit.

2. Pipe Damage

Hard water is particularly bad for steel pipes. Steel pipes will get damaged by the buildup of limescale. This buildup will also prevent water from flowing properly. Limescale deposits can also damage your washing machine and dishwasher. Repairing your plumbing and appliances on a regular basis is very costly. So, we recommend investing in a water softening system instead.

3. High Water Bills

The harder your pipes have to work to let water through, the higher your water usage will be. If you notice that your water bill is too high, then you might need a water softener. Fortunately, you can ask your local utility company to perform a sample analysis on your home’s water. Depending on their recommendations, you might have to install a water softener to lower your bill.
