If you’re a new homeowner, or have been in your home for a while, ways to vamp up current rooms in your house may cross your mind from time to time. A simple way to do that in your living room is by adding molding or trim to the room. This is an easy way to create height, a classy elegant look, and doesn’t take longer than an afternoon. Our crew at Handyman Connection of Boise has put together a few pro tips and suggestions for when you’re looking to add mold and/or trim to your living room.
Simple works.
As most design concepts outline, almost always, keeping it simple will pay off in a beautiful way. Depending on the layout of your room, consider that when you’re installing mold or trim, you don’t want to take away from the room. This is why keeping it simple is usually recommended. You can use simple molding styles to frame the room without taking away from features and details. There are lots of design layouts and resources online to help you figure out the simple style that works for your home.
Get creative with your materials.
When you think of trim and molding usually the white standard board comes to mind. However, the latest home design trends indicate that homeowners are increasingly becoming more creative with the types of materials that they are using when adding trim or molding to their homes. One of those trends is a dark stained wood frame. This goes great in certain styles of living rooms. Consider giving it a try!
Keep it thin.
Alongside our bit about keeping it simple, try incorporating an extremely thin style of trim or molding if you are in a more contemporary style of a house. A thinner trim along the ceiling and baseboards can enhance the living room’s sleek and minimalist look if that’s what you are going for. Also consider painting the trim a shade or two darker than the walls to create a really lustrous, elegant look.
Feature certain areas with the trim.
Bringing life to the living room can sometimes be a classic design challenge. One of the ways to overcome this is, again, by getting creative. Try adding trim around areas of the wall that you wouldn’t normally think to add to. You can create featured sections by installing the trim in a pattern or a squared section. You can also add art, shelves, or more that can be featured by adding the simple trim to it. You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference this would make to a typically boring space of the wall.
